The current version seems to have a bug: it always displays the rollout for new notifications since it thinks i was away from the computer. That happens as im sitting in front of it, busy typing or whatever.
This was a great app until the newest version. Now I get an error when trying to run an applescript in Outlook 2011 for mac. Its a great script from Veritrope that allows quick importing of emails from outlook into evernote. The error reads: "Script Error: Growl got an error: Cant continue to notify." I hope the good people at Growl look into this and provide a fix. This was a 5 star app IMO before the latest update.
It either just stops working or crashes. Im constantly restarting the Growl process. Since I have no use for any of the new features its definitely a big step backwards for me personally.
Works great except for the rollup window always displaying even when Im not idle, which is *really* annoying.
After the last update, Growl is not honoring my per-app settings and uses the default throughout. Very irritating. The settings clearly show a per-app style is set. A version or so before itd sometimes do that and when I opened Growl settings itd fix it for a while. This used to be a 5-star app, but the last several version have been plagued with issues and updates have only introduced more annoying bugs.
I downloaded this app because my computer told me I had to and because it was apparently already installed, and when I had to pay for the update, the update never fully installed, and so my computer was never right after that. I tried to delete the app, but I couldnt. And so my computer just seemed funky for a while after that! I wouldnt recommend this app to anyone, it doesnt sync anything like it says it does...
Latest update 2.1.1 still has not fixed automator action. I no longer recieved notification that the action is not compatible with the current version, but there are no notifications being displayed as the action is run. I would have reported on the Growl web site, but there does not appear to be a support page.
I paid $3.99 for the "update" and now Growl doesnt launch anymore. I was going to unistall it but I thought I would give the update a chance. Nothing. I want my money back.
Get the open source version, it still works. Stay away from the Apple store apps in general as far as I am concerned. Stick with open source!
Using more memory than Photoshop now. Not sure what changed to suddenly cause that but its getting hard to keep it open.
Growl is great and Ive used it for years.
I used to love Growl for managing my notifications, but its gotten so bad lately that Ive stopped using it and just deal w/ the terrible Mountain Lion notification center. Id rather do that or have no notifications that have Growl hogging all of my CPU and RAM after its been running a while.
Keeps crashing after upgrade to OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Do not buy until update from Growl supporting Mavericks.
I can’t start it and when I try to open Growl Preferences it crashes System Preferences too. I’m running 10.9 (Mavericks).
Bought have a while and were trying to solve the click the alert not working issue… There’s ways that try to fix using the Growl Version Detective (update the Growl framework) but need to check your applications one by one!! Can upgrade and downgrade the Growl’s framework (isn’t supposed to be Growl’s job???)… the problem is… not always work!!!! Found workarounds also using Bark and other third part program… but shouldn’t be something that Growl (paid program) should embed? ?? So, means that i bought this program and is not working at all out of the box… need to add extra apps to make it run…
I’ve found Growl to be very useful over the last several years and am happy to pay for it now that it’s found its way to the App Store. It does everything you could wish for it do without ever getting in the way or crashing. It simply runs invisibly in the background until a program like (video encoder) Handbrake needs to notify you, and then it does so in much the same way Apple’s notifications work for most programs found in the App Store. Well worth its modest price.
Growl brags that it will help you manage all notifications from one place. What they don’t tell you is that the majority of applications won’t register with Growl and never will - and you have no way to register them. Don’t believe me? Just search the web... You want to use Apple Mail or iCal with Growl? Forget it, you can’t. And that’s just the beginning. About 10 applications I purchased it for don’t play nice-nice with Growl. I basically took four bucks and threw it out the window. I uninstalled Growl after 30 minutes of trying to be certain it couldn’t do the things I’d purchased it to do, because frankly I couldn’t believe it. Practically useless...
I really really would like for this application to intercept OSX Notifications and create custom rules and such. Seems as though it has not gained support by mainstream apps. I have all the usual programs and the only Handbrake supports growl. I only use that about once per year. I was really hoping for this to be a bit more extensible. I will check back next year, when I use handbrake again. Hopefully by then there will be something bigger.
I originally had version 1.2 on my old Macbook and so I decided that I would get the new version for my new Air considering how much I have previously enjoyed it. The only problem with that plan was that the program refuses to open AND the one time that the installation worked, it wouldn’t even allow me to change the apperance of the notification. Why pay for something that doesn’t even serve it’s purpose?
