It doesnt work for me on OS X lion, even though the compatibility notes say it should. I have used Growl before and it worked great on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard with a 17" Macbook Pro. I recently upgraded to Lion by buying a fresh new computer, a Macbook Air and so I bought Growl on the App Store. But Growl doesnt give me any notifications for my Transmit application (Im running the latest Lion version). Thats also the only app I own on my home computer that seems compatible with Growl out of the box. The preview and settings pages are all configured with defaults and yet I never get a Growl notification using Transmit. So to see if Growl was even working I installed the latest GrowlMail and it sort-of, kind-of works, it does display new messages periodically but sometimes long after theyve come in, so it seems useless for instant notifications which is what I thought Growl as all about. At other times, GrowlMail give me three notifications for the same email. I have no idea why.
Im not a newbie user of Growl, Ive used this program for years with earlier versions and never had a problem. It used to be free too. Now it costs money and doesnt work. Ive also installed Growl on two different computers (one for work, one for home) and it doesnt work on the second one either, a Macbook Pro running Lion and the Zimbra application which supports Growl. This same computer fine on Snow Leopard with the free version of Growl. Now there are no notifications from Zimbra at all anymore in Growl, even though it says its running. So Im pretty disappointed. I was going to email the developers to get help but cant be bothered right now to spent hours diagnosing a problem and anyway the website shows a large team effort which is great but I saw no obvious single point of contact for help. I really like support open-source projects which is what Growl used to be, and when I pay for something I expect it to work. So I rate this program 1 star because I bought it and it doesnt work as advertised.
